About one year ago, I was preparing for a cruise vacation with my wife. There are many considerations when packing for any vacation and one important variable is weather. The cruise I was taking was stopping in seven countries across two continents so checking the forecast required opening up a lot of weather.com tabs in my browser. This was cumbersome so I decided to build a simple report using a weather API to show the weather for all cities on one page. Here was what the report looked like: https://cristella.me/cruise_outlook_v1.html

Since I had the simple report built and found it to be very helpful, I decided to share it with others on my cruise. It was a huge hit and several people asked me if I was the “weather guy” during our vacation. When I came back from our trip, I started to explore the possibility of building weather reports for many sailings. That is exactly what I did over the course of a few months and now that simple report has inspired Cruise Outlook – https://CruiseOutlook.com

Cruise Outlook has only been around for about 9 months as of this writing and has become very well known amongst cruisers. The site receives a substantial amount of visitors each month and is growing at a steady rate. It is interesting to see how a simple concept that I developed to help myself out turned into a successful web application that now helps people around the world.
